Mountain Cabin
This is a 1/12 scale replica of a full size "build your own home" kit.
The purpose of the model was to let people practice building their house in
miniature before tackling the real thing. In other words, it was a training aid.
And it's structurally correct, including a full basement (which you can't see in
the photos).
Here you see the main entrance. Note that the siding was installed to match the
pitch of the roof. The double front door utilized an expanding diamond design to
complement the siding/roof pitch relationship. And just to the right of the porch
bannister you can see the greenhouse that encloses a solar heating system.
Looking down on the main floor layout. The wall partitions are intentionally skinned
on one side only for instructional purposes. At the top of the photo, the group of
tubes lining the inner wall of the greenhouse are part of the solar heating system.
This end view of the front entrance shows why I chose to match the angle of the siding to
the roof pitch. It's far more work to do it this way, but the results are worth it.
