FOND MEMORIES
of a
FAMILY HOME
When a local resident called to ask if I would recreate his parent's old home as a
model, I really didn't expect the job to be as large as it turned out.
When it was finished, I had spent 750 hours to build a 1/24 scale replica of the 1887
homeplace that included a seven-gabled roof (removable, to be able to place furniture
inside), wallpaper, hinged doors, operating windows, and a porch that completely encircled
the replica. It was finished in the exact colors of the original house.
USED WITH PERMISSION, FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM
The point to this story is that models don't have to be only miniture replicas of an
object. They can represent parts of our lives that we want to preserve. There
is not a more thoughtful gift for someone than a model of their most precious memory.
Whether it's their "heyday" car, an object from their military days or an
old home, a model will tell that special someone that you really care about what is
important to them. Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or "just because",
are all great times to honor someone with a model.
