GMC GENERAL TOW TRUCK

Rollback/tiltbed tow trucks are a fairly common sight these days.  As a result, I developed a magazine article describing the conversion of a GMC General tractor into a tow truck.  Since there's no way to know if a GMC General was ever used this way, the model has to be considered speculative.

With a 1/25th scale AMT kit of the GMC General as my starting point, the finished model appears to be substantially larger.  A 1965 Chevrolet pickup was chained to the deck so the tow truck would have a load.

From this angle you can see the chains holding the Chevy securely in place.  The chains are real and the keyslots cut into the deck are functional.

Looking smaller in this photo than it actually is, the GMC General Tow Truck conversion is in the process of loading the disabled Chevy onto the tiltbed.
